Sutent (Sunitinib Malate) capsules are used to treat an advanced form of kidney cancer. However, it is not known whether Sutent (Sunitinib Malate) will improve symptoms or help patients live longer. Sutent (Sunitinib Malate) capsules are also used to treat a cancer of the stomach and intestines called gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST).In cancers of the stomach and intestines Sutent (Sunitinib Malate) is only used when the medicine Gleevec (imatinib mesylate) does not stop the cancer from growing. Sutent (Sunitinib Malate) may also be used when if are unable to take Gleevec.
