Nature Sweet by Westcoast Naturals is extracted from the stevia rebaudiana plant, one of the more than 150 plants within the genus stevia. Stevia is related to sunflowers and marigolds and is native to Paraguay. It contains 4 different steviol glycosides (chemical compounds) that are up to 250 times sweeter than sugar, but are fat free.Used Commercially for More than 30 Years
Stevia has been used commercially as the main sugar alternative in for colas, gum, etc. in Japan since the 1970s. It is currently classified as a dietary supplement by Health Canada, meaning Nature Sweet is approved as an addition to your diet. Stevia plants are being grown in Ontario by Agriculture Canada.
No Side Effects
In more than 30 years of commercial use, there are no reported side effects or contraindications to stevia, unlike some artificial sugar substitutes such as aspartame that have been banned in many countries. Nature Sweet is completely non-toxic.
