Effects - How it works in the body

Rifadin is belongs to the Antibacterial, antimycobacterial family of drugs which is also known as antileprosy agent medication and commonly used for the treatment and prevention of the infections of tuberculosis infections. Rifadin is never used alone, but in combination with at least one other agent that treats tuberculosis. Rifadin works by inactivates a bacterial chemical called RNA-polymerase. The tuberculosis bacteria use RNA-polymerase to make essential proteins and to copy their own genetic information (DNA). Without this RNA-polymerase chemical the bacteria unable to reproduce and they die. There are two phase, the initial phase and continuation phase in the treatment for tuberculosis. In the first two months after infection (the initial phase), treatment is aimed at killing as many bacteria as possible. After the initial phase some of the medications are stopped and the others are continued for a further four months (continuation phase) to kill any remaining bacteria. Rifadin is used in both stages of treatment. The bacteria that cause TB are difficult to treat.
