Effects - How it works in the body

Remicade is a monoclonal antibody belongs to the family of an inflammatory bowel disease therapy agent's also known as antirheumatic group medication and commonly used for the treatment and prevention or relieve of the symptoms of Crohn's disease, psoriasis, or rheumatoid arthritis. Remicade works by binding to and preventing the activity of a specific protein produced by the body known as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha). TNF alpha is involved in producing inflammation. It controls the activity of other inflammatory chemicals. TNF alpha is found in the inflamed joints of people with rheumatoid arthritis and in the inflamed lining of the intestine of people with Crohn's disease. Preventing the action of TNF alpha prevents the inflammatory responses it causes. Remicade also reduces the presence of other inflammatory markers. Remicade is used to reduce the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and improve physical function of the joints. Remicade is used in combination with Methotrexate to treat this disease when disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs, eg sulfasalazine, methotrexate) has not been effective.
