Preventing the action of TNF alpha prevents the inflammatory responses it causes. Remicade also reduces the presence of other inflammatory markers. Remicade is used to reduce the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and improve physical function of the joints. Remicade is used in combination with Methotrexate to treat this disease when disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs, eg sulfasalazine, methotrexate) has not been effective.
