Atenolol

Atenlol is prescribed to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Atenolol has been shown to lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure by 15% - 20% in a single drug treatment. For chronic angina patients, the occurence of silent ischemia and the risk of infraction also reduced. In this respect, Atenolol is superior to nifedipine and nitrates.
