Warts are minor local infections caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). The virus invades the skin cells and causes them to multiply rapidly. There are at least 50 kinds of warts caused by this virus. In fact, almost everyone will develop a wart at some time or other. When using them, it's important to follow instructions and to apply carefully so as not to irritate surrounding skin. Afterwards, the dry skin should be removed with a pumice stone. See your doctor if a wart doesn't respond to this treatment. He or she may prescribe a stronger wart remedy. Plantar warts and genital warts also require professional medical attention.
