Hyzaar Precautions

Before beginning treatment of Hyzaar, make sure that your health care provider is aware of any potential allergies to Hyzaar, losartan, hodrochlorothiazide, sulfa drugs, or any other medications. Tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription medications you are currently taking, especially anti-inflamatory medications such as ibuprofen or naproxen, barbituates, corticosteroids, digoxin, diuretics, lithium, medications for diabetes, other medications for high blood pressure, potassium supplements, probenecid, and vitamins. If you are also taking cholestyramine or colestipol take it at least 1 hour after Hyzaar and hydrochlorothiazide.

Tell your doctor if you have ever had a illness that may complicate your treatment with Hyzaar, such as,

  • Gout,
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE),
  • Asthma,
  • thyroid disease,
  • Liver disease,
  • Heart disease,
  • Kidney disease,
  • or Diabetes

If you are having surgery - including dental surgery - tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking Hyzaar.

Hyzaar will make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how Hyzaar will affect you, and remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by Hyzaar.

Avoid unnecessary prolonged exposure to sunlight and wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Hyzaar may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight.
