Product Information

Lotriderm Cream(betamethasone/clotrimazole) belongs to a group of medicines, known as corticosteroids, used for reducing inflammation. Inflammation occurs as a result of allergy or irritation and is caused by the release of substances that are important in the immune system. These substances cause blood vessels to widen, resulting in the affected area becoming red, swollen, itchy and painful. Corticosteroids work by acting within cells to decrease the release of these substances in a particular area, thereby reducing swelling, redness and itch.

Clotrimazole is an antifungal medicine. It interferes with the production, by fungal cells, of a chemical called ergosterol, which is a component of fungal cell membranes. This results in damage to the cell membranes and loss of the contents of the cells. The cells subsequently die, thus reducing the spread of infection.

The combination of these medicines Lotriderm Cream(betamethasone/clotrimazole) is used to treat fungal skin infections, whilst relieving the associated itching and inflammation.

Lotriderm Cream(betamethasone/clotrimazole) is used for:

Fungal skin infections, eg athlete's foot, ringworm, candida skin infections. You should not cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages or other dressings, including nappies, as these will enhance the absorption of the medicine into the body and may increase the risk of adverse effects. In pregnancy, Lotriderm Cream(betamethasone/clotrimazole) should not be applied extensively in large amounts, or for prolonged periods. Continuous, long term use of Lotriderm Cream(betamethasone/clotrimazole) should be avoided in children. Long term use Lotriderm Cream(betamethasone/clotrimazole) on large areas of skin, particularly in skin folds or if the skin is damaged, may result in increased absorption of the medicine into the bloodstream, with an increased risk of side effects. Lotriderm Cream(betamethasone/clotrimazole) should not be used for longer than five days on the face or in children.
