Cosmetic Botox injection treatments have been approved by the U.S. FDA for cosmetic use since April 2002. Botox Cosmetic contains the chemical Botulinum Toxin Type A. Although Botox is most commonly used as a cosmetic treatment to temporarily get rid of wrinkles and crows feet, it is also used to treat blepharospasm, strabismus, cervical dystonia. In some way or another all these conditions involve spasms or involuntary muscle contractions.
Cosmetic Botox injections are a diluted form of Botulinum Toxin Type A which is injected into facial muscles to paralyze or weaken the muscles that form wrinkles.
Botox is a simple, nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people from 18 to 65 years of age. It is the only treatment of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
What to do and what to expect after your Botox injections:
1. After getting Botox Cosmetic injection(s), try to excercise your treated muscles for the first 30 minutes. So try to frown or squint and raise your eyebrowns over and over again. This excercise allows the Botox to get into your muscles.
2. You should try not to rub or massage your treated area for approximately 24 hours after the Botox treatment. Do not excercise or get facials or use a sauna for atleast 4 hours after getting Botox treatment.
3. You will notice tiny bumps at the site of treatment. These bumps will go away within a few hours. If you need, you can apply make up to cover up the tiny bumps or redness at the Botox injection site (apply the make up gently).
4. Do not lie down for atleast 4 hours after the Botox treatment (to avoid pressure or accidentally rubbing the treated Botox site).
5. You can expect to see the optimal result of the Cosmetic Botox treatment after 14 days. However, you will experience noticeable differences after 2-3 days after the Botox treatment.
It is important to visit your doctor after 3-4 months of getting Botox treatment. If you get Botox treatment too early, you may become resistant to the Botox.
