Product Information

Asendin (Amoxapine) belongs to a group of medicines known as tricyclic antidepressants (TCA).

When depression occurs, there may be a decreased amount of the chemicals noradrenaline and serotonin released from nerve cells in the brain. When these chemicals are released from nerve cells they act to lighten mood. When they are reabsorbed into the nerve cells, they no longer have an effect on mood.

Asendin (Amoxapine) works by preventing this re-absorption of noradrenaline and serotonin back into the nerve cells. Therefore, it helps prolong the mood-lightening effect of any released noradrenaline and serotonin. This helps relieve depression.

Asendin (Amoxapine) also blocks receptors in other areas of the body resulting in Asendin (Amoxapine) side-effects such as dry mouth.

A response to treatment may occur within four to seven days, however, it may take two to four weeks before any benefit from the treatment is seen.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) comes in the category of anxiety disorders, and is characterized by recurrent and unwanted ideas or impulses (called obsessions) and an urge or compulsion to do something to relieve the discomfort caused by the obsession. The obsessive thoughts range from the idea of losing control, to themes surrounding religion or keeping things or parts of one's body clean all the time. Compulsions are being referred to as the behaviors that help reduce the anxiety surrounding the obsessions. In general the people suffering from OCD suffer both from obsessions and compulsions.
